Newton Onco is a student at Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) where he studies Cinematic Arts & Technology. Onco is from the Kiowa / Caddo nations, and he is an artist of many media.

He has a love for the art of storytelling which is influenced by his tribes and family. Onco created his Native Lens episode during quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Onco enjoyed that filming his episode allowed him to put his filmmaking skills to use during the pandemic. It was also a fun experience, and a great way to honor the memory of and love for his mother.

“My advice to Native people… tell your stories to the viewers, they can’t be heard if you don’t share them”. Onco urges Native and Indigenous folks to get out your phones and start creating stories. “It’s that easy,” said Onco.
