Native Lens is looking for a producer to join our team! Native Lens is a collaborative film and video project hosted by KSUT Tribal Media Center and Rocky Mountain PBS. The project provides training initiatives and showcases films produced by Indigenous peoples in North America. Through the exhibition side of the project, Native Lens functions as a platform to showcase films and videos from across Indigenous communities through a digital series on Rocky Mountain Public Media and NativeLens.org. By sharing firsthand Native perspectives, Native Lens works to amplify Indigenous voices through storytelling.
Job Summary: The Native Lens Producer is responsible for overseeing the creative and technical aspects of Native Lens submissions and delivery process across digital and broadcast platforms.The producer ensures that each selected piece aligns with the initiative’s vision while maintaining the integrity of the filmmakers’ work. This role involves close collaboration with the KSUT Executive Director, Rocky Mountain Public Media, the Native Lens Project Producer and Native Lens Editor. The Producer helps manage the submission process, oversees the editing of content for broadcast quality standards and assists in promoting project submissions.
- The position is part-time and remote. A reliable internet connection is necessary.
- Some travel is required, travel expenses are covered.
- This is a 12 month contract position, compensation is $1500 / month.
- Experience working within and strong connections to Indigenous communities are a requirement for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the solicitation of film submissions;
- Manage and update the Native Lens FilmFreeway account
- Organize and track submissions through FilmFreeway; create and manage the review process: assign Editor and Project Producer submissions to review. Set and lead programming meetings to discuss and select submissions.
- Contact filmmakers and coordinate the delivery of project files and necessary footage with Native Lens Editor
- Along with the Native Lens Editor, conducts any editing necessary on selected films while maintaining the integrity of the filmmakers’ visions. Editing may include adding music, tightening, cutting b-roll, adjusting audio levels etc.
- Produce Native Lens Broadcast episodes: program and compile selected Native Lens submissions, coordinate with Rocky Mountain Public Media to ensure broadcast specifications are met, overseeing the editing and file delivery process.
- Coordinate and communicate responsibilities and duties of and with the Native Lens Editor;
- With Editor and Project Producer, maintain and update database of Native Lens films and digital assets
- Update Monday.com with publishing calendar and deadlines
- Assist Project Producer with grant writing, fundraising and partnership opportunities
- Provide timely updates on programming and publishing in bi-weekly Native Lens Meetings
- Engage in Native Lens Fellowship trainings through mentorship and instruction
- Produce ancillary content (NL compilations for showcases, trailers/promos, etc.)
- Participate in social media and engagement strategy meetings
- Assist in promotion of the project: As available, represent Native Lens at public events and showcases
